1. Nanomaterials for low-molecular-weight MALDI-TOF MS

  • MALDI-TOF MS: matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization - time of flight mass spectrometry

  • Nanostructured solid matrix chips including parylene-matrix chip and TiO2 nanowire chip for:

    • Elimination of organic matrix noise (< 500 Da range)

    • Quantitative analysis of low-molecular-weight biomolecules

    • Enhancement of ionization/desorption efficiency

2. Medical diagnosis based on MALDI-TOF MS using low-molecular-weight biomarkers 

  • Rapid and sensitive antibiotic susceptibility test based on MALDI-TOF MS

    • Reaction monitoring of beta-lactamase (e.g. carbapenemase​) with beta-lactam antibiotics (e.g. penicillin, carbapenem)

    • Machine learning based database/software for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) screening
